Ski Tour ’10 rocked!

Ski Tour ’10 rocked!

Tuesday, March 09, 2010 at 12:00:00 AM

Hello out there in cyberspace,

Second portion of our Ski Tour ’10 rocked!  Right when we pulled up to the Big Sky Resort, Mike and I piled out of the van and literally sprinted to the check in counter to get checked into our hotel rooms, get dressed, and start skiing!  The skiing was phenomenal (of course.)  Gotta watch out for Big Sky’s famous “minefields” while riding though.  Both of us came home with a few rock wounds left on our skis..  I’d have to say, however, the music and the hang afterward was the most fun we’ve all had, I daresay all year – and that’s saying a lot!  With a lineup including The Traveling McCourys, The Infamous Stringdusters, Crooked Still, and Bearfoot, there were plenty of hot sets, jam sessions, and general good times had by all!

Though it was hard to pull ourselves away from all that fun, it soon came time to head down the road again..  Helena and Missoula MT. were the next gigs on the list.  Both were super fun!  In Helena we got to play for an intimate, beer drinkin’ crowd of people all fired up from a day of skiing.  Missoula received us in at MTSU’s beautiful auditorium for a slightly less rambunctious audience, but very kind and appreciative.  Afterwardd was fun there as well.  The girls and I made a little side trip to the local watering hole where we found some friends of ours pickin’…  A beautiful drive, and a 4,000 foot elevation gain later, and we were in Teton Village , WY . at the base of Jackson Holes’ famous resort playing in a skier bar called the Mangy Moose.  I have to say, the Moose was a lot of fun, but the good old fashion earn-your-turn backcountry skiing we did a little ways down the road (don’t want to give away our secret spot) was WAY better!!

After our beautiful stay in Teton Village , we loaded up good ‘ole Bearforce One and cruised back to Colorado where we got to kill a couple days in Beaver Creek right next to Vail.  Not too shabby!  After a decadent down day of movies, coffee, yoga, and more skiing, we started off for the home stretch.  The Salida Cafe's small, packed crowd made our gig there so fun, it was like we'd played there dozens of times!  Then there was the Swallow Hill in Denver..  Talk about a hometown crowd!  It was the perfect way to wrap up an epic two-month tour.  Many Alaskans came out to support us as well as all our CO friends from the area.  It was the first time we've ever sold out Swallow Hill!  So happy!  Yay!

Well friends,  we'll be cooking up more new music to play on our next trip for a few weeks in Nashville, so keep an eye on our schedule in the meantime for when we pass by your way!  Our next trip will be taking us to Merlefest, and Old Settlers and many others..   Peace out!   Sincerely,   Jason
